A new musical theatre piece, portraying the story of a family in grief and a community paying its last respects to the recently deceased old man.
Based on the Palestinian mourning rituals, this three-day event is the moment where cliché and grief merge. Blending repetitive singing and spoken word with an a cappella male chorus, this public gathering exposes the necessity to live and the duty to respect the dead. The story weaves a rich tapestry of life and death through shared memories, small rivalries and brief moments of compassion and empathy. This ritual, in its rigid form of repetition and small gestures, is a ceremony where the mundane and dramatic are intertwined to create a peephole into the soul of a community.
