Monumental draws from two iconic symbols of classical ballet – the swan and the soldier – to create a richly layered solo. Old 35mm films, projected images and atmospheric lighting combine with a humming cello score. Fleeting movements evoke the vulnerability and strength of human nature, the boldness of youth, and the wisdom of age. Charming and often hilarious, Monumental invites the audience to recognise the innocent bird and the brave, sometimes tainted soldier in all of us.
