Hotel Pro Forma — Operation:Orfeo

Operation:Orfeo is a stunning piece of visual music theatre from the Danish company Hotel Pro Forma. The timeless myth of Orpheus and his descent into Hades to rescue his dead wife Eurydice is used as the foundation for a modern concept of opera created by architecture, sound and light. A huge staircase stretching into the infinite and framed by a proscenium construction serves as the set for this production which is performed by the Ars Nova Choir. Operation:Orfeo is spellbinding to the ears and ravishing to the eyes — an abstract painting that sings and moves with staggering beauty.

Copenhagen based Hotel Pro Forma, founded in 1985, work in the sphere where visual art, architecture and theatre are connected with elements of languaqe, music and movement. They frequently collaborate with the Japanese performance company, whose performances were one of the highlights of the 1996 Adelaide Festival.
